2003 Series HK$1,000 Counterfeit Notes

In January 2015, the Hong Kong Police seized one new variation of the counterfeit HSBC HK$1,000 banknote (2003 series).  This counterfeit banknote has two characteristics different from the previous seizure:

(1)    The print dates in Arabic number and the Chinese character at the middle bottom of the counterfeit banknote were changed from “2008” to “2009”; and

(2)    Under ultraviolet light, the counterfeit banknote shows a brighter and more prominent fluorescent barcode as compared to that of the previous seizure, which is similar to the genuine banknote.
